Tuscaloosa Amphitheater

The City of Tuscaloosa has recently opened its Tuscaloosa Amphitheater overlooking the Black Warrior River northwest of downtown. Davis Architects of Birmingham placed the proscenium stage, flanking support buildings and seating for 7,470 to create a welcoming compound that will host a wide range of events.

Mountain Brook City Hall

The new Mountain Brook Municipal Complex will feature a big city element – 60 below-grade employee parking spaces – in order to maintain its small town character. The design by Williams Blackstock Architects with Henry Sprott Long Associates solves the knotty problem of how to replace the existing smaller facility with one four times as large at the same location in Crestline Village.

Small Business Resource Center

This small (1550-square-foot) renovation to serve the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Resource Center shows how far good design can go on a budget. It serves as an incubator providing tenants small offices, a receptionist and meeting areas at a modest rent. Many components – including the design – were donated.
