Town of Hampstead

A new showcase for town planning and architecture has emerged at Hampstead on Taylor Road in east Montgomery. A project of The Colonial Company, the new urbanist development master planned by DPZ of Miami has two buildings designed by the Gary Justiss/Turner Batson Architects joint venture fronting the handsome town square. Tenants include Number Sixteen Restaurant & Market, a YMCA Y’s Up Gym and the newest restaurant, Farmhouse Kitchen, opening in June.

Bottega Restaurant Redesign

Remodeling a celebrated local restaurant is not to be taken lightly, but Hatcher Design Associates of Birmingham made sure moves with recent alterations at Bottega in its landmark Highland Avenue building.

Greek Orthodox Church Plaza

A need to improve accessibility has been turned into a fine new entrance plaza for the Holy Trinity Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Birmingham’s city center. Designed by Giattina Aycock Architecture Studio of Birmingham, the 9,000-square-foot, $435,000 project removed the existing limestone steps from the doorway and rebuilt them closer to the street. A new low limestone wall extending the width of the church accommodates the new handicap ramp and also creates a visual base for the building.
